Tips For Creating Content
In today’s strategy for marketing and building a brand or clientele, you need to always be creating better and more content. It’s like a whole other job along with your paying job, there’s so much to think about, so much to plan and edit, but in the end it makes the difference for getting you busier and ultimately helping you make more income.
For me, it gets to be a lot to be a hairstylist, a mentor, a fiancé, a friend, a business owner and content creator. I wanted to share the things that have helped me throughout the few short years of my career and how to maximize your success with it comes to capturing your work!
To start with, capture everything! Every little thing you do behind the chair, or whatever it is you’re trying to create, get anything and everything you’re doing. I always like to shoot before and after photos for side by side transformation pictures, and I get several different angles of each photoshoot. This way I have options for what I like, multiple pictures to use over and over, and I’m able to create a vibe of photos that I like best. Nowadays short videos and reels are huge! So throughout my work day, my assistant and I set up a tripod to capture us working together and get the angle if one of us is busy. Using a tripod is so important if you’re someone who works alone without help.
That brings me into my next tip, invest in a tripod! It doesn’t have to be a crazy stabilizer or a six foot tall thing. Just someone big enough to put on a surface like your station or tray to capture what you want on your phone. I get asked how you can make videos without the help of an assistant or another stylist and a tripod is the perfect way to do that!
Another tip that helps me out is setting time aside to edit and create content! When I’m working behind the chair, I get everything because once my client is done processing or once we curl their hair, the moment is over. We only have so much time while working to get what we need. But when I’m not behind the chair, I plan out time to record myself styling my hair, editing photos from the work week, and take content pictures with a friend!
You can definitely do all of this by yourself, but lets face it, it’s a lot to do it alone. It makes it way more fun to team up with a friend to get creative! I have a content buddy other than my assistant and we help each other at the salon, and on our days off to get more “fun” shots like our favorite outfits, new shoes and anything else to show our current and future clients more of our personality!
At the end of the day, creating content is a ton of work. But if you make it fun, work with your tripod and set time aside to get it all done, it’ll truly make a difference in your career!
